Japan June 2011 - Day 14 - Osaka

A-Bomb dome site, before and after.

Day two in Hiroshima and although we were leaving for Osaka already that day we had chosen a late train so pretty much had an entire day to explore. We gritted our teeth and headed for the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park first thing in the morning. We had heard from others that had been there it was quite a full-on experience and it certainly was. So many horrific stories, and frozen reminders of a terrible part of our history, especially in the Museum.

I was most afraid of seeing the Children's peace monument as most people would remember hearing about the story of Sadako Sasaki and making colourful paper cranes in primary school to send to this monument in her memory. Back then it was just another story told to us while we were children, something that happened far away and a long time ago but standing right there, on the site where it happened, and seeing thousands of freshly made cranes still surrounding the monument really brought it home.

A-Bomb dome site and the pond of peace.

After spending a few hours at the Peace Memorial Park we certainly weren't in the mood to do much else and stocked up on some lovely food from the department stores and headed on to Osaka.

Osaka - Swissotel Nankai

One of the most incredible things I have ever seen - A sink that dispenses soap into your hands via sensors, THEN washes them, THEENNNN DRIES THEM!! (sad I know... but seriously!)
