Showcasing the Japanese Islands

all photos by Ippei & Janine Naoi

I stumbled across a little gem today!

Did you know that Japan consists of over 6,000 islands? There are of course the main four, Hokkaido, Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku, but there are also thousands and thousands of other smaller islands. I haven't even scratched the surface having only visited Yakushima and boating around the Kujuku Islands off Sasebo.

Most people would be familiar with the beautiful islands of Okinawa, south of Japan. But did you know about the Tokyo Islands, Artificial islands, islands of the inland Seto Sea, the island where all residents used to have to wear gas masks, the island of cats and the 'ghost' island an abandoned coal mining island? There are the beautiful and the bizarre, but the link I stumbled across is intent on showcasing the beautiful.

Take a look at the Flickr photo sets of Janine & Ippei Naoi, a designer couple who are determined to capture the beauty of many of the stunning japanese islands that most tourists fail to know of or visit. Gorgeous shots, I have been flicking through them for days dreaming up possible itineraries and wondering how I can get weeks and weeks of leave when I have only just started a new job... Another 1000 places to add to my Japan Bucket List, another 1000 distractions from planning my RTW trip!
