Japan Again! - Okuhida Onsengo - Oct 09 - Part 2

Okuhida Onsen

Our first day in Yumoto Chuoza was spent constantly soaking in hot springs. With about 8 different hot springs within the ryokan itself we didn't have much time to get to them all! First of all we decided to see if we could get one of the private hot springs right after our check in at about 3.00 - success! They had a great system where you could access the springs by using your room swipe key, all very exclusive!

We also tried the public same-sex hot springs soon after and as usual I stuffed up with taking my slippers off at the wrong time! It is impossible sometimes to know when & where exactly to take them off! The public baths were huge and absolutely stunning, the indoor one was scalding and the outdoor just beautiful.

Two baths in, we were starting to get a bit prune-ish and decided to quit with the bathing and wait for dinner. Heading to the dinner area, there were signs with guests names on them and arrows to where you would be sitting. I assume there was a main food dining area, but we were taken into a private dining room with an irori and sunken seats with spots to actually put our legs in - no crossed/cramped legs tonight! Dinner was wonderful - the food was typical kaseiki cuisine - very local and with so many little details and stories behind each dish. The quality of beef & plum wine here was really good.

The next morning we got up early to have a soak in these:

So... beautiful!

After checking out of Yumoto, we spent the rest of the day visiting the Hirayu Waterfall & Shinhotaka Ropeway.
